Leading fire engineering consultancy, FDS Consult UK, has announced the launch of their free fire risk assessment service in light of the recent breach of legislation by leading high street retailer, New Look.
In November the news broke that New Look had to pay over £500,000 for breaching the Regulatory Reform Order relating to fire safety. This was the largest fine ever issued under the RRO but highlighted how overlooking small fire safety elements could have serious consequences.
“It wasn’t until the fire broke out in the New Look outlet on Oxford Street that it became obvious there weren’t adequate fire safety protocols and systems in place. This event should serve as a warning to all businesses as although fortunately no-one was injured in this incident, they were very lucky as hundreds of people were at risk,” commented Andy Riley, director of FDS.
“Fire Design Solutions (FDS) has introduced this free assessment service for building owners to adequately identify any actions which need to be taken in order to protect the structure and its occupants from fire and meet all requirements under the RRO,” he continued.
FDS is the country’s leading fire engineering consultancy with an impeccable track record of providing RRO fire risk assessments on new and existing buildings in addition to cost effective bespoke solutions. Following the introduction of the Regulatory Reform Order (RRO) ‘every building which constitutes a place of work, including residential common areas, should have a fire risk assessment carried out to ensure adequate levels of fire safety are maintained’.
